Lantau Trail 9

SHEP PIK RESERVOIR TO SHUI HAU

DISTANCE 6.5K

DIFFICULTY     1

TIME                 2.0hrs

This trail is listed on the Lantau trail list at no 9 and is one of the best trails i have been on .Making you way depending on which way you are coming you have to go to Shep Pik reservoir and finish on the side nearest to Mui Wo.The sign you are following is to the Red Cross youth camp passing the prison, down by the prison are some rock carvings but it is a steep decline  knowing you  have to come back up to get to the trail. When you reach the Red Cross camp just go passed and the trail will  eventually come up on your left, follow the sign for Lo Kei campsite and Shui Hau. Starting to climb along a tree lined trail which believe or not is joy to walk along. All you have to do now is follow the trail and it will eventually lead you to Lo Kei campsite.Traveling along this track  now on the top you get an outstanding view of the surrounding countryside and coast line, on a clear day you can see for miles. Now wish i had a little bit of information before i went that when you get to the campsite you will find it on a large beach,so if like me you are feeling hot and sticky then you know what you must take with you, swimwear. i didn’t. When i was there i had the beach to myself its not a tourist attraction so i thought why not and went for a swim in, well do i need to tell you .There are toilets not first class but enough for what you need and of course there is a nice picnic area.Leave the way you come into the campsite only turn right on the track its a bit of a climb be not too bad. Eventually you will come to a road follow the road  and its about 2 km to the main road at Shui Hau.

Transportation from Hong Kong is either by ferry to Mui Wo from central pier 6 and then bus nos 1 or 2 or MTR to Tung Chung then bus nos 11 or 21 ask for the reservoir.
